High-quality and reliable ceramic glow plugs from Beru Systems enhance the combustion behavior of the diesel engine. But the ability of the glow plug as actuator exceeds the pure start support. Specifically, the Beru ceramic glow plug as an outside heater senses the changes in the combustion chamber during the firing cycles. Implementation of the capability to detect the temperature inside the combustion chamber could be an option. Another possibility could be to inform the engine control unit about the current state of cylinder. Within the scope of this research project the ceramic glow plug will be analyzed and modeled as a sensor element, which depicts the changes in the combustion chamber as an electrical value.
